Mia's birth and first few days

On September 26th I had my weekly doctors appointment at 9:30am. I went in and they did the normal appointment routine where I had to pee in a cup, get my blood pressure taken and they hooked me up for the NST (non stress test). I had pre-eclampsia again with this pregnancy so this was normal routine. I was 37 weeks 3 days along with this pregnancy and things just seemed to be getting worse. I was getting severe headaches and swelling pretty bad. At this point my doctor (who I saw throughout the entire pregnancy) was away on vacation and I saw another awesome doctor! Doctor Hahn! She decided it was time to have our little lady and that it was doing no good keeping her in me.

She admitted me to the hospital that Thursday, on September 26th around 10 am. I called Phil and he came over from work and we got situated in our room. They started pitocin around 12:30pm and said that the labor would probably go real fast since this was my third pregnancy, but of course, my body doesn't follow the normal protocol!

Around 2pm I got the epidural and the doctor broke my water. I walked into the hospital at 3cm's and only made it to a four around 3pm. I was slowly progressing. Around 9pm I felt lots of pressure and at 9:25pm miss Mia Brooke (who wasn't named for 36 hours after her birth) arrived!

They placed her on my stomach right away and it was the most amazing feeling and moment. When Cole and Avery were born they took them right to the "cleaning station" and i didn't ever experience the feeling I did with Mia. I was so overwhelmed with love and emotions. It was amazing.  Right away I noticed something on her back, towards the base of her spine. After testing a few days later it was determined that it is only a skin tag, and not Spina bifida like they though it could have been.

On Friday Mia had a blue spell - where she turned grey/purple and stopped breathing. We brought this up on Saturday to our pediatrician and they said to keep an eye on it. We were discharged Saturday around 10:30am and headed home. While at home she had a few more episodes. I called her pediatrician who instructed us to go to Bryn Mawr.  From there lots of emotions and stress occurred and lots of poking to our little lady (4 spinal tabs, 3 attempts to a pic line, 4 attempts to IV's, etc..). It was awful! We were transferred to DuPont who were amazing and diagnosed Mia with severe reflux and acting like a preemie. She is on Prevacid and Caffeine. There is a bunch more I could write about during the first 12 days of Mia's life, but I am just not ready to type it all out. It brings lots of emotions still, and i'm just not ready.

One thing I do want to note, just in case I never get back to writing it all out, is that Mia is a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis. Since i print these blog posts out and this becomes the kids baby books, Mia needs to know this. This has no affect on her today, but when she is ready to start to have a family.

Here are pictures of Mia's first 12 days :) Can you tell how much Cole and Avery just love their baby sister???
