Some people may ask why us, why now?....

But we say Thanks!

We have had a lot happen here at the Shoemaker house over the last few weeks, where some people might say why us, or why now? But going through what we are going through, all we can say is Thanks. Thanks to all the people that have helped us the last few weeks, they have made it easier to get through and stay strong. We are so very very lucky to have such wonderful family and friends.. so Thank You!

We haven't had it too bad, but enough where I'm to the point of laughing! So I'll give everyone some background! (this is just a quick brain dump - I apologize for the spelling errors and incomplete sentences)

It all started in June when I found a cyst on Cole's chest. About 1 week later we dealt with the 1 week of high fevers that I blogged about, and may doctor appointments and his doctors not really giving us answers, blood work etc.. for our little guy. My Gram was in and out of the hospital and my mom was in Pittsburgh for some time... Things seemed to calm down, but then Cole had another week of high fever, and this time we were able to say it was because of an ear infection. A few days later I was in the hospital for high blood pressure, dehydration, etc.. During this time we were seeing many specialists, Cole going to Occupational Therapy for weakness on the left side, finding a new doctor for Cole, and visits to the OB for baby shoe number 2. We finally decided that it was in Cole's best interest to get surgery now, and they were able to do the Surgery August 18th, or not until October/November. We took the August 18th date to try to get it in before baby girl arrives.

Last week I went to the Doctors feeling great!!!! Things have calmed down at work, coming to order, and I felt good! I was swelling a bit, but nothing too bad! The doctor took my BP and it was high 165/97 (they checked it 3 times with 3 different machines) and then had me pee in a cup to check my pee. I was +1 protein, fabulous! (not a great sign) So i was sent up to Labor and Delivery for monitoring AGAIN! After about 4 hours there I was sent home on strict bed rest, can only get up to go the bathroom or make lunch, no running errands, etc.. (yeah right!) how can I be on strict bed rest with a toddler? Especially a toddler who is to get surgery in less than a week.

Saturday around 3:00pm Cole woke up from his nap feeling really hot! So we took his temperature, and sure enough it was 103.4.. Great! Sunday he was fever free most of the day and around 5:00pm he had a fever of 102. On Monday morning I called the Doctor to get him in to check him out to see if we can still have the surgery... after I called we got a notice from the school he goes to that hand foot and mouth disease is going around. Cindy took Cole to the doctors for us since Phil and I couldn't get out of work (yes, I'm on strict bed rest but still went into work!).. Cindy called me and said sure enough Cole has hand foot and mouth disease and started to break out in blisters pretty much right after the appointment.. Ugh!! I called the surgery center and we both agreed to postpone the surgery to remove the cyst since they will have to put a tube down his throat...

So.. here we are today, Cole has blisters pretty much every where, and keeps sticking his tongue out and saying "hurts".. He sits on the hardwood floor and holds his feet up and says boo boo's, (breaks my heart), I'm to be on strict bed rest, working from home (yeah right!), and Phil is trying to get settled with a new position at work. Oh! And to top it off, i called my OB to tell them Cole has hand foot and mouth disease and is there anything I need to be worried about.. the nurse came on the phone and told me i had to get blood work as soon as i could. I went today around 11:30 and got blood work and will hopefully hear something tomorrow- who knows what they are testing, I was to busy laughing at this point.. Just our luck! :)

So, that is what is going on, and then some.. too much other details and stuff to type out..

Here are Cole's blisters. My poor baby :(
