That is what Cole has. Some of you may know that I realized that Cole wasn't really straightening his middle finger on his left hand. I noticed this about a week ago. I called my mom to see if she had noticed it, and she didn't. Then I thought maybe his finger was broken, because when he was put in his highchair, and put the tray on, it snapped and we thought it caught his finger. I called the doctor last friday, they got him in and told me it was probably trigger finger, and to take him to an orthopedic surgeon. We went there today, and he was diagnosed with Comptodactyly.. I've never heard of it.
Camptodactyly is a medical condition involving fixed flexion deformity of the interphalangeal joints of the little finger. This involves permament flexure of one or more phalanges (fingers).
We were told we could have surgery on it, and it would straighten his finger out, but he most likely would not be able to fully bend it, or ever make a fist. We decided no surgery. He has to be fitted for a splint, and wear it 8-10hrs a day, so he will wear it when he is sleeping. He gets fitted for that on June 8th. He has a follow up with the orthopedic surgeon in 3 months. They said it could get worse as he gets older, and most likely wont get better. So we shall see.
It was hard today to hear the doctor say "Cole has a birth defect" man, even tho it is just for a tiny little finger that doesn't hurt him, or his health, it still was like a stab in the heart. I finally felt the emotion of all you want to do is make sure you baby is happy, and healthy. I am thankful that it is so minor, and that it will probably never bother him, but still.. my baby!!!
You can see in the below picture, it is the middle finger, he can straighten all of his fingers, except that one, it pretty much stays in that position.. there are times it looks like he can straighten it all the way - but mostly he keeps it bent
(this pic taken last week, almost 5 months old)
(this pic. was taken when he was 2 months old)
I was looking at pictures of when he was 2-3 months old, and now i notice it... I wish i noticed it sooner, but oh well..
